Air Canada to fly Montreal–Tenerife year-round from 2027
A winter-only route is becoming a year-round one. According to the Spanish news agency Europa Press and matching reports dated 3 September 2026, Air Canada will keep its Montreal–Tenerife service running throughout 2027. The link had originally been announced for the 2026/27 winter season alone.

The move came as part of a larger package: on the same day, Air Canada presented its intercontinental programme for summer 2027, with five new international destinations and seven new routes. For the Canary Islands, the shift from seasonal to year-round is the headline — in the airline business it is read as a vote of confidence in demand.
What was actually announced
Per the Europa Press report of 3 September 2026, Air Canada will maintain the Montreal–Tenerife connection across the whole of 2027. The carrier places Tenerife in a group of routes moving from purely seasonal operation to year-round service.
According to the same reporting, that conversion out of Montreal covers not only Tenerife but also Lima and Guatemala City. A complete 2027 timetable with month-by-month frequencies had not been published at the time of reporting. Some outlets referred to summer operations starting in June 2027, without giving frequencies.
Which airport, which aircraft
The route does not serve Tenerife North. It serves Tenerife South Reina Sofía (TFS) in the south of the island, the airport that handles Tenerife's international leisure traffic. That matters for ground transport: journey times from TFS differ substantially from those out of the northern airport near La Laguna.
Industry reporting consistently names the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody designed to make exactly this kind of thinner Atlantic market viable. Canary Islands media report a 182-seat layout, with 14 seats in Signature Class with lie-flat beds and 168 in economy. Those cabin figures come from secondary reports rather than from an airline release we were able to read.
The launch: 31 October 2026
The first departure from Montreal is scheduled for 31 October 2026. The initially published winter timetable showed one weekly rotation on Saturdays through late April 2027; some schedule analyses additionally list a second weekly frequency in parts of the season, around February and March.
Air Canada also serves Tenerife South from Toronto, flying twice weekly there since 25 October 2026 on Thursdays and Sundays, again with the A321XLR. Neither Air Canada nor the airport operators have published load factors or booking figures for the route as far as our research found.
Five new destinations, seven new routes
The Canary Islands element is only one piece. For summer 2027, trade media report five new international destinations for Air Canada: Guangzhou, Oslo, Shannon, Basel and Dubrovnik. The new or restored routes named include Vancouver–Guangzhou, Toronto–Oslo, Toronto–Shannon, Toronto–Nice, Montreal–Basel and Montreal–Dubrovnik, plus the return of the Toronto–London Heathrow daytripper service.
Exactly how outlets arrive at "seven new routes" varies, because brand-new routes, resumptions and year-round conversions are sometimes counted together. Tenerife is not one of the five new destinations — the island is already served and is now being upgraded in category.
What it means for the North American market
Until 2026, according to industry reporting, there were no nonstop routes at all between Canada and the Canary Islands. Winter 2026/27 changes that on several fronts: Air Canada from Toronto and Montreal to Tenerife South, plus Air Transat from Montreal and Toronto to Gran Canaria from mid-December 2026.
Cabildo vice-president and tourism councillor Lope Afonso called the decision "excellent news" for Tenerife, according to Canary Islands media, while Turismo de Tenerife chief executive Dimple Melwani was reported as describing the year-round extension as an important step for the island's positioning in Canada and North America. For Canary residents, meanwhile, Montreal is a gateway into the North American network without a detour via Madrid or a European hub.
For connections: Montreal-Trudeau is an Air Canada hub, so onward flights to Toronto, Vancouver or the United States are usually smoother on one booking than on separately purchased tickets.
