When and where does the fiesta take place in Betancuria?

On Tuesday 8 December, Betancuria celebrates the Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción in the village centre, as the council lists on its website. It calls the event local and gives neither times nor a programme.

The Festivales de España directory goes further and gives 5 to 8 December for 2026. It names the Plaza de Santa María and the Centro Cultural de Betancuria as venues.

These details come from the directory alone, and neither the council nor a second source confirms them. The documents do not say whether 8 December is a local public holiday in Betancuria.

Is there an entry fee, and what is on the programme?

Entry is free, according to the Festivales de España directory. The council's page mentions no prices or tickets, so visitors should check on the spot.

At night, the directory says, there is theatre in the historic village centre, which is a Bien de Interés Cultural (protected heritage site). There is also a snack for older people, Canarian duos, a children's party and a solemn Mass.

Neither the council nor any other source confirms this programme, and the days, times and performers for 2026 are unknown. The directory says the council plans to publish the final programme a few weeks before the fiesta.

How do visitors from the south get to Betancuria?

Neither the council nor the Cabildo (island government) has published anything on getting there, parking or buses. Nothing is known about possible road closures during the fiesta either.

The council offices are at C/ Juan de Bethencourt 6, 35637 Betancuria, and open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 14:00. The phone number is 928 878 092 and the email address is informacion@aytobetancuria.org.

These are the council's general contact details, not a direct line for the fiesta. Anyone heading to the Mass in the village centre on Tuesday 8 December should ask beforehand about times and parking.

What does the 2025 edition suggest for 2026?

The 2025 fiesta also ran from 5 to 8 December with free entry, according to the Festivales de España directory. On 5 December there was a snack for older people at the Centro Cultural, though the directory gave no time.

On 7 December 2025 came the children's party on the Plaza de Santa María, with bouncy castles, face painting and balloon figures. Dúo Mambo and Dúo D'Moda were on the music bill, but the directory gives no days or times.

On the main day, 8 December 2025, the solemn Mass began at 12:00 in the parish church. Whether the same schedule applies in 2026 is not confirmed.

Who organises and pays for the fiesta?

The Betancuria council organises the fiestas. According to the Tendios tender portal, it put the organisation for 2026 out to tender (file number 1475/2025).

The budget there is 36,000 euros excluding tax, and the procedure is marked as decided. The tender covers all the 2026 patron saint fiestas, not just the December one.

How the 36,000 euros is split between the individual fiestas is not known. The documents name no winner.

What should newcomers know about Betancuria?

Jean de Béthencourt and Gadifer de La Salle founded Betancuria in 1404. It was capital of the Kingdom of the Canaries and later of Fuerteventura, until Antigua took over in 1834.

The council lists San Buenaventura on 14 July as the feast of the island's patron. San Diego follows on 13 November at the Ermita (chapel) de San Diego, and Santa Inés on 21 January in Valle de Santa Inés.

The final programme for the Fiesta de la Concepción is still to come. The council posts current information on the official website.
